Gender inequality is one of the most prevalent forms of discrimination. Despite some progress in the last twenty years, 122 million girls remain out of school today, facing multi-faceted barriers to education like poverty, long distances to school, unsafe sanitation facilities and child marriage that contribute to absenteeism and dropout (UNICEF). And yet, we know that investing in girls’ education benefits everyone, supporting the development of healthier communities, stronger economies and more resilient societies (UNICEF).

On International Literacy Day 2025, the Swarovski Foundation is delighted to highlight the inspiring work of our long-term partner Room to Read.

2025 marks Room to Read’s 25th anniversary, an incredible milestone for an organisation that has benefited more than 52 million children across 29 countries. 2025 also marks 10 years of partnership with the Swarovski Foundation, which has supported its Girls’ Education Programme in Asia since 2015. Together, we are working towards Room to Read’s vision of a world free from illiteracy and gender inequality, inline with the Swarovski Foundation’s mission to promote sustainable livelihoods through education to reduce inequality.

On this occasion, we are delighted to share an inspiring read from their global book collection with our supporters. ‘Yuyun’s Magical Bubbles’ tells the true story of a young Indonesian change-maker’s efforts to create a positive impact in her community. Developed with an Indonesian author and an Indonesian illustrator, it is a moving example of the power of imagination to drive positive change, resonating well with the Swarovski Foundation’s focus areas of Equity, Creativity and Water through its depiction of female empowerment, innovative thinking and eco-friendly practices.

This e-book is dedicated to all those who have made this impactful partnership possible.

Thank you for your support.
